This is part 1 of a recap of the holiday, during which this blog was strangely silent.
This year, Elaina was old enough to really appreciate the tree.
She helped to decorate it, hanging some of the less breakable ornaments. But candy canes were really her area of focus.
Elaina hung the candy canes on the tree, carefully positioning each one according to some aesthetic known only to her.
It takes a steady hand and a keep eye to get each candy can in just the right spot.
You have to be able to judge the merits of one candy cane over the other. Picking the right on for each situation.
Sometimes, they break, and all you can really do, at that point, is eat them.
