Bedtime for Daddy

“Mommy, I want you to put me to bed.  Daddy needs a break.

(She was not coached by me in any way, but I’m not complaining.)

“Go to the living room, Daddy,” Elaina added.

When I laughed but didn’t move, she continued.  “I need to tuck you in.  Come on, Daddy.”

Elaina took me to the living room couch and found a blanket to cover me up with.  She always takes extra care to make sure my feet are covered—“You have to have your feet covered, silly.”

She kissed me goodnight, “Sweet dreams, Daddy.  Nighty-night.  I love you.”

And then as she was leaving, she turns back, holds up an admonishing finger, and says sternly, “No running around, Daddy.  It’s not playtime—it’s bedtime.”
