This morning, I heard Heidi telling Elaina that she had to wear leggings or something under her dress, because they were going to a playground. Elaina was protesting, Heidi was insisting.
Later, I'm downstairs, trying to smooth things over a little. "I like your leggings, Sweetie."
"Thank you. Mommy says this," she points to the center of a flower on her dress, "matches them."
"She's right. Are you giving Mommy a hard time today?"
"A little bit," she replies conversationally. "Not too bad."
