Rescue Prince Philip: Ultimate Princess Squad

What do you get when you pair a gamer dad with a four year old daughter obsessed with princesses?

“Rescue Prince Philip”

This is Elaina’s favorite game.  She often chooses to do this rather than watch TV before bedtime.   

It’s one part imaginative story telling, one part number recognition (from dice ranging from 4-sided to 20-sided), and one part “Princesses aren’t just ineffectual, pretty girls needing to be rescued.”

It’s been really cool.  When we started, I was doing most of the story telling and prompting her with, “What do they do?” and “What happened?”  Whenever she contributed to the story, it was always the same.  But now, she’s making up original stuff and changing it up.  Prince Philip is no longer always trapped in ice.  Sometimes, there’s a secret stairway.  The Princess Squad grew from Aurora and Cinderella to include Belle and Ariel.  They have magic in the form of sparkly dice.  They aren’t afraid to face down Maleficent—even in her dragon form—and they do it with style.
