Elaina's found a new hiding place. Since the Grand Reconfiguration of Gates, she has the run of the kitchen, more or less, when we're out there.
She's found that there's this gap between where the cabinets end and where the wall begins. The fact that it has a different floor—ancient linoleum predating the tile of the kitchen—adds to its mystique.
It's just the right size for her. She likes to disappear into her hiding place and wait for you to call, "Where's Elaina?" before poking her grinning face out.
Getting into a hiding place without giving away its location can require a bit of agility.
And since it's hard to say what may be inside a hiding place, it never hurts to be prepared. One seldom regrets having an umbrella.
Ah, but secret hiding places are not all fun and games. Sometimes, they're small and cramped. Sometimes, you get stuck trying to turn around, and no one likes getting stuck very much.
But the fear of getting stuck is a storm soon passed, and it's back to the fun of a hiding place.
