Elaina loves playing outside, and she’s been a lot of fun lately.
She’s past that age where every step is a potential disaster (or maybe, I’m past that point where I think her every step is a potential disaster).
On this particular Saturday, we were running around, hiding behind trees, which as it turns out, is surprisingly fun if you happen to be a two-year-old. Maybe more surprising, it’s fun even if you’re not a two-year-old but happen to know one who will play with you.
Either Elaina’s started playing a different game, or Daddy’s a lot better at hiding and sneaking than she is.
This shot is Elaina in her “jungle”—a flowerbed that is all ferns and bushes with flanked by two or three trees. (This is not to be confused with her “garden”, which is closer to the house and has more flowery kinds of plants.
We have this game, “Dinosaur Jungle”, that involves the explorer hiding in the jungle, while a dinosaur prowls and stomps and roars around its perimeter. Fortunately, the “jungle” isn’t very visible from the road, so the odds of the neighbors wondering what’s going on are rather remote.
